One Stop Shop - Autism Initiative
Our Funeral Assistant Derek Morrison brought to our attention a local charity in need of some help. The Highland One Stop Shop (HOSS) is a person-centred support service for adults aged 16 and over with an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The One Stop Shop provides a whole range of support and advice for these adults, as well as families, carers and other professionals. Service users have access to drop-in sessions and one-to-one advice meetings as well as enjoying free social groups and activities – a lifeline to people who otherwise may be left feeling excluded and lonely.
Autism support is often focussed around schools and therefore on children. When a person leaves school there is often a void left behind where once their usual support network was. This is why Derek felt so strongly about the invaluable work of HOSS and brought their situation to Vicki’s attention. Last year HOSS lost a large part of its financial support and now relies on donations in order to continue providing its service all across the Highlands.
Derek, Vicki and Sarah met with Kirsten and Matt from HOSS to do some fundraising brainstorming recently. It was decided that we should exploit the artistic flair of the multi-talented Derek and produce a 2019 calendar of his beautiful landscape photography. John Fraser & Son will cover all of the costs of producing these calendars ensuring that the entirety of the proceeds will go directly to the sterling work of the Highland One Stop Shop.
It’s now a case of ‘all hands on deck’ as we embark on this project – keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates!
